Tribute to Karim Manji
Dear Karim and family, I was so shocked and saddened to hear this news. I will forever be grateful for the support and friendship shown by Karim during our time at university together. I was incredibly homesick during my first term but Karim was always there with an open door and a cup of tea to help me through those tough months. He seemed so worldly wise at the grand old age of 20, regaling us with tales of his gap year in Tanzania. We also shared a fantastic six weeks in Thailand and Laos, with Karim being the driving force behind the trip and helping me to step out of my Northern English comfort zone! I will never forget the (what felt like) hours spent lost in the jungle periodically extracting leeches from our legs and arms until eventually we arrived back at our camp. Karim and I took different paths following university but I enjoyed following his enthusiasm and dedication to his various charitable and social enterprises via social media. My sincere condolences to all Karim’s family. I hope you can find some comfort in the way Karim positively impacted so many people’s lives over his short time with us.
